Road Transportation Services

Our Road Transportation division traces its origins to 1991, initially established within Samsung Electronics, later transferred to Samsung SDS in 1998, and ultimately spun off as STraffic in 2013.

We successfully implemented Korea’s first nationwide Toll Collection System (TCS) for the Korea Expressway Corporation and conducted the pilot project for the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) to validate our technological capabilities. Following this success, we completed the nationwide ETCS rollout.

STraffic develops and manufactures the core products required for toll collection and provides comprehensive maintenance and repair services for both manned and unmanned integrated toll collection systems. Furthermore, the company has recently has implemented a smart tolling system that integrates wireless communication with vehicle license plate recognition technology, enabling toll charges without requiring vehicles to stop.

TCS (Toll Collection System)

STraffic’s TCS solution is an integrated toll collection system designed to accurately and efficiently collect tolls on toll roads. With our own technology, we develop and operate a range of equipment. They ensure accurate charging, enable fast vehicle flow, and maintain high safety standards. They also collaborate with ETCS and Smart Tolling (MLFF), providing flexibility to extend your existing infrastructure into future systems.
STraffic has successfully built TCS on various highways and private roads in Korea and possesses proven technology and operational know-how.

ETCS (Electronic Toll Collection System)

STraffic’s ETCS solution allows vehicles to automatically pay tolls without stopping, via wireless communication (DSRC RF/IR, RFID) between vehicle terminals and road infrastructure. It ensures fast, accurate toll collection and smooth traffic flow with ETCS lane control system and sensing technology optimized for highways and city roads.
STraffic has various references based on the technologies developed in the first domestic ETCS pilot project.

MLFF / Smart Tolling

Multi-Lane-Free-Flow (MLFF) is a cutting-edge toll system that collects fees from vehicles traveling at high speeds without stopping, using wireless communication (DSRC RF/IR, RFID), ANPR, and AVC technologies. It can integrate with existing MLFF infrastructure and is recognized as a core technology for future road operations. Smart tolling allows pre-registered vehicles without a DSRC terminal. It identifies vehicles through license plate recognition and wireless communication, collecting tolls automatically after a car passes. This system improves traffic flow, enhances toll collection efficiency, and increases convenience for drivers.

TCS Kiosk

This unmanned system allows drivers to make manual payments at toll gates. It supports multiple payment methods, including cash, credit cards, and transport cards. With accurate fare information, a simple payment process, and fast processing speeds, it creates smooth and nearly non-stop flow.
